Refresher course
May 17th

Vector poster by Rydeen
I’ve been really drawn to vector illustration and characters, they can be anything to fresh and cartoony which I love (as I type this I just realized I want to make a vector powerpuff girl.) That is of course not all they can be, as I’ve been reading Logo Design Love (yep I finally got my copy) it reminded me how much fun illustrator was.

this is the last real thing I did in illustrator, know who this is?
Problem is, I haven’t really used illustrator since I took a class in it about a year and change ago. So on that note, I’ve been finding some basic tutorials as refresher, first one was very quick and pretty informative, I had no clue what the path finder tool was before I did this tutorial by Chris Spooner. Check out the results and to find out who it is in the picture hit the jump.

This took about 5 minutes to do and it goes over a quite a few tricks and tools that I didn’t know about. Check it out here at blog.spoongraphics. Have any other tutorials or you’re on the same track? Hit up the comments section and let me know. More >
Citizen kaNO
May 6th

I’ve had this picture drawn by KaNO for a few years now . I thought of it last night and I wanted to share it with everyone but not as the pic of the day because I wanted to show more of kaNO’s art. A New York designer and illustrator this picture started my love of his style and I already have my eye on a few pieces of work that I want including his book and limited edition wallet. Here are a few other things hes done. More >
ITS TIME FOR RANDOM PICTURES
Mar 15th
I often search the net and see pictures I save for use later on which I never actually use, so why not share them with the people? I think we’ll start off with a folder I’ve had for awhile now and never used. There are more than a few pictures and I forget the source, if you have it leave me a comment so I can give credit wheres its due. These are all Japanese headphones advertisements drawn anime style, I saved them hoping I would find something to do with them but never did. So here I share them with the world hit the jump to see the rest of them, then leave a comment saying which one you like best, I personally dig the goldring dr150 and the audio-technica pics.
Wu Massacre Album Art
Feb 18th
Illustration: Chris Bachalo; Art Direction & Graphic Design: Alex Haldi
The artwork for the long awaited Method Man, Ghostface Killah ,and Raekwon The Chef Wu Tang album. For those that don’t know about the Wu Tang Clan they are deep into comic book culture so this right up their alley. I myself love it and can’t wait to grab a copy to keep on my shelf.

Stephen Colbert and David Ross talk olympic art.
Feb 18th
Stephen Colbert sits down with David Ross and discusses Olympic art’s downfall since becoming a corporate entity.
I personally don’t have a true opinion on this, if it looks good it looks good to me, however I see his point where the Olympic art shown don’t really represent the Olympics anymore but seems to be more a big promotion for whatever city they happen to be in.
what are your thoughts?
Louis Vuitton X Murakami QR Code
Jan 12th
I’ve been on the job hunt the last few days so unfortunately this update will be pretty lackluster but it’s something that has been on my mind especially since I found someone who was selling a poster of the qr code. For those that don’t know what a qr code is, think of it as a barcode that you can scan that links you to websites and other information, very big in Japan as most phone cameras are able to read the codes. Check out the first designer qr code which was made last year with another collaboration between LV and Takashi Murakami.

QR Codes are the bar codes of the future, linking online and physical graphics to websites and multi-media. For the most part, the codes have still maintained an abstract look akin to their predecessors.
A recently released designer QR symbol, produced by Tokyo based creative agency SET is looking to change all that with a stylized remake of the standard code. Mixing design with technological innovation, SET teamed up Takashi Murakami with Louis Vuitton to create a distinctive code featuring one of the artist’s characters and the classic LV pattern. The agency hopes this will add much needed style and character to the bland world of machine readable codes.
