Boat Shoes :D

I know I’m jumping the gun, it’s still January and while it has gotten warmer here in Colorado that doesn’t mean a damn thing. It could 50 tomorrow and 22 the day after, but I just can’t get the thought of boat shoes out of my head these past couple weeks. The boat shoe is a classic silhouette, and has been embraced the past few years by the younger set which has caused various companies including Nike and Vans to introduce the style to their Spring/Summer (S/S) collections. Last Year Complex did a top 10 boat shoes of summer and even an article on how to tie them. While it may still be too cold to rock them, I don’t think it too soon to prepare mentally and visually. Jeans, shorts, pants, khaki’s whatever you got boat shoes can handle them. Dressed up, or down in the spring and summer time you can’t go wrong with a pair but of course remember the golden rule NO SOCKS.

A quick history on boat shoes the modern shoe was invented by Paul Sperry in 1935 which is why the Sperry Top Sider is the go to boat shoe followed by Sebago. Think of them as the Pepsi and Coke of boat shoes. Nothing wrong with the classics but as the pics will show you can always grab a Dr.Pepper or Sprite. Now without further ado, hit the jump for pictures of shoes and the people that rock them well. despite some wearing socks >:( Warning, there quite a few pictures not for 56k, assuming you still live in the past. The Reason I Get Fly as Ibn Jasper

My Lupe Fiasco fans recognize the title as a line from his single Paris, Tokyo and that’s what sparked this blog.  After hearing this line enough times I finally went to my good friend Google and found out who he is and I have to say I agree with Lupe the man is pretty fresh, no homo.  Ibn (I- ben) Jasper is Kanye West’s personal barber and style consultant, yes the guy responsible for the lines in the hair at the VMA’s that looked like A Tribe Called Quest album cover. The starts, the logos, the shag, even just a simple fade Ibn is responsible for all that.  Ibn came up in Chicago as one of the best barbers in the city  Kanye liked his cuts so much that when he was away from Chicago he wouldn’t get his hair cut because no one could do it like Ibn and eventually hired him to be his personal barber by matching what he made cutting hair back home.  Yes, my dude came up on cutting hair, I just love this story cause its cool to see people come up on something besides what you see often like being an entertainer or athlete.  I’m not going to write a book on him but just sharing what came about thanks to simple curiosity, for more info you can always visit his blog F.M. TOP 9 OF 09

Today being the last day of 2009 I decided to join in on the list making extravaganza that is taking place.  I too shall put my stamp upon history with my clearly definitive list of the Top 9 of ’09 and of course me being me who can argue?  Without further ado I bring you TRUE TECH’s TOTALLY TOP 9 OF ’09.

9.  V Neck Sweaters

Red V Neck and button down

I got into v neck sweaters in a big way this year, paired with a button up, a pair of jeans and if I’m feeling myself, a tie for a hint of color became a casual way to dress up whenever I was going out.  Living in Colorado one must of course dress for the weather so the fact they keep me warm wasn’t a bad thing either.  Thanks to a gift card from my sister I finally found my holy grail of sweaters, a plain red v neck sweater from Express.  I’d have been looking for months with a help of friends and family and no one could find one, till I happen to go in Express since I had the gift card and lo and behold, one red sweater left and it was in my size.  And of course to anyway that cares, I prefer mine with the collar out.
